The international bestseller The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, published in 2003, is a novel about a 15-year-old boy Christopher, who is a Mathematics genius. Although not specified in the novel, the symptoms of Christopher suggest that he has Asperger’s Syndrome. The death of the neighbor’s dog unveils the hidden truth of his family and brings him an adventure in London.
The book has gained places on several bestseller lists, including Wall Street Journal and New York Times. It has sold more than 5 million copies and has published in more than thirty-five countries. The theatre adaptation was released in 2012 and has now moved to Broadway. The play won 7 Oliver Awards including Best New Play at the 2013 ceremony.
The book is more than a detective story – it is a story about a young man who overcomes developmental disabilities. It is hoped that students will look at the world from a different perspective and put themselves in the shoes of people with special needs.
