Autism Partnership Korea organized a workshop on “Maximizing Progress” over the course of two days from March 16-19. Children with ASD typically experience some deficits but they have the ability to learn the skills that will improve the quality of their lives. Workshop speakers believe in this potential and they were able to share their knowledge and experience with the attendees.
The first day workshop opened with AP director, Dr. Ronald Leaf, who spoke about the realities of autism, the effective programming to maximize learning progress and practical ways to respond to disruptive behaviors. He also stressed the significance of learning how to learn skills.
The second day continued with Dr. Tracee Parker, presenting social skills and developing meaningful relationship. She emphasized the importance of developing social skills and demonstrated how social curriculums to be carried out and taught to children at different levels.
Last up was Toby Mountjoy, AP Associate Director, who spoke on communication and language. Many children with ASD struggle with language skills, with some of them being completely nonverbal, so these are areas that need much attention. Mr. Mountjoy shared techniques and methods for advancing speech and communication as well as how AP develops its curriculum in this area.
All the hard work that went into planning this workshop was awarded with a full house and excellent reviews. Many attendees were pleased with the content and found it to be helpful to their understanding of ASD. Some of those were so impressed that they were not only open to attending more of our workshops in the future but also to encouraging others to attend as well. This workshop was a huge success and facilitated greatly in distinguishing AP as an expert service provider in the field of ABA.
