A workshop attracted 80 participants was organized by Asian Professional Counseling Association (APCA) for students and members of APCA at Hong Kong Sue Yan University (HKSYU) on October 5, 2015. The workshop was to introduce the evidence-based treatment for autism – Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
There is a rapid growth of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the United States in 2014, autism is found in 1 out of every 68 children. With the implementation of Integrated Education in Hong Kong, there is an increasing number of students with autism attending mainstream schools. This brings challenges to the teachers and students in the class room.
To help the students to gain understanding about effective teaching method in the classroom, Mr. Raymond Fung, Behavior Consultant of Autism Partnership, delivered a talk to give a brief introduction about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and the application of ABA. Students found the topics very interesting and enjoyed the video sharing, case study and demonstration of the application of ABA.
“It was fun interacting with the students from HKSYU.” I am impressed with their active participation and eagerness to learn.”
